Hike for Cancer Care

25/07/2011

Staff from several MediCare stores joined forces recently to climb Northern Ireland’s highest peak, Slieve Donard, in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Last year, Marie Curie’s 2000 nurses gave 1.2 million hours in helping over 31,000 terminally ill people nationwide.  To maintain this commitment, the charity requires £10,000 every hour of every day to carry out their work; running their nine hospices and home nursing services.  Research and development is also a key part of the groups work, where they invest millions of pounds annually.

Hike organiser, Ryan Catney from MediCare’s Hannons Pharmacy, commented,
‘Marie Curie is a very relevant charity to a lot of our patients as many have had family members or friends who have used their services, either the nurses or the hospice.

‘Although there were a few sore legs and feet, everyone had a great day and we managed to raise over £1400 for this very worthwhile cause. Thank you once again to all those that took part and sponsored us.’
