MediCare & Strabane Cricket Club - Bowling up Summer Coaching
07/07/2010
Strabane Cricket Club will once again be holding their hugely popular Summer Coaching Scheme from Tuesday, July 6, which is free to all participants.
The scheme will run until the last week in August with three days of coaching taking place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week throughout the summer months. Young players aged seven to 11 will receive coaching from 11am to 12 noon daily, while the 12 to 16 year olds will be coached between 12.30pm to 2pm.
Anyone interested in attending, even if they have never played the game before and have no connection to the club, may avail of the top class coaching on offer, which will be delivered by the club’s full-time South African professional player, Jonathan Beukes, and Ireland international bowler, Phil Eaglestone, among other qualified coaches.
Sponsored by MediCare, the event aims to help young players develop their skills, make new friends and enjoy a healthy activity and lifestyle during the long summer holidays. Johnny McGonigle, MediCare area manager for the north west, commented: “As club sponsors MediCare were enthusiastic when the idea of promoting sport and healthy activity to kids came up. We were keen to help subsidise the event so that it would be free for the children. We are a community-based company so it is important for us to give something back, which we were keen to do.”
Each participant will receive a free Strabane Cricket Club ‘Starlets’ T-shirt, as well as free fruit and a drink after each session as the emphasis is on healthy living and participation in sport. Any boys or girls interested in securing a place on the scheme, which is free, should just turn up on the first morning, Tuesday, July 6, and they will be accommodated.
