Welcome to our A-Z of helpful health advice

The purpose of this area is to provide you with some general advice on health matters.

For further advice why not visit your local MediCare Pharmacy where our highly trained Pharmacists will be happy to discuss your health concerns in strictest confidence and you don’t even need to make an appointment.

The majority of MediCare Pharmacies now have private consultation rooms and these areas provide a private and therapeutic setting for patient consultation.

In MediCare we pride ourselves on the level of service we deliver and continue to deliver in the healthcare arena. The core competencies of efficient dispensing within a safe and regulated environment are always a priority and we have managed to develop these services by listening to what our patients want.

Minor Ailments

Thanks to the NHS funded Minor Ailments Scheme, it is no longer necessary to visit your GP for illnesses of a minor nature which can now be treated by your local Pharmacist. All you have to do is visit your local pharmacy where you can get advice and treatment from the Pharmacist, who may well be able to prescribe medicines to treat these minor conditions effectively. Under the Minor Ailments service, depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible to receive these medicines free of charge.

Pharmacists are trained to deal with minor ailments and have welcomed the opportunity to supply treatment free to eligible patients. The service offers a huge benefit to patients since they receive quick, expert ‘drop-in’ advice in the pharmacy without the need to make an appointment with their GP. This will hopefully allow GPs to spend more time focusing on those patients that really need their input.

The service currently covers the following ailments in both adults and children; athlete’s foot, vaginal thrush, oral thrush, head lice, cold sores, mouth ulcers, threadworms, groin itch, diarrhoea and ear wax.
